VISIT UWAN-UWANAN GORGE AS YOUR ADVENTURE DESTINATION

Let's experience the hidden nature of the Municipality of Libagon which is the Uwan-Uwanan Gorge. :)

Uwan-uwanan Gorge is located in Barangay Kawayan, Libagon, Southern Leyte. The gorge is a world-class adventure wonder. Going here is a mix of climbing, swimming, and trekking rolled into one. It will take a two-hour trek to the mountains, rappelling and climbing bamboo ladders within cascading falls before you reach the top.

Uwan-uwanan literally means "resembling a rainfall" because the two-hour track entails an enchanting encounter of an "uwan-uwanan". And at the top, photo enthusiasts are in for a marvelous treat. At exactly 12:00 noon when the sun is directly above the middle of the narrow opening at the gorge, the natural light is awe-inspiring as it dramatically illuminates the whole area resembling a magnificent altar in a cathedral or a place of worship.

To get there, if you’re from Cebu ride on a boat bound for Maasin City via Cokaliong Shipping Lines and from Maasin sit on a bus for Sogod, then you can hire a multicab for Libagon, and stop at the Kawayan Elementary School, look for the Barangay Hall nearby, they will give you escorts and a brisk briefing will be conducted before going to the gorge.
Start the journey by exploring the bushy part of the area with a 45-55 minute trek on foot. You will be crossing the same river 7 times. Expect the slides and plunges for the stones are mossy and slimy. You might want to consider using foot wears that are ideal for hiking, quality ones. As soon as you reached the mouth of the gorge, be ready with another 55 minute encounter with the cliffs and stream.
It is most important to make sure to secure all your belongings hence this is a wet adventure that involves a lot of swimming and climbing of waterfalls before you reach the top. The guides will carry your stuff as you explore the gorge, they will make sure that your things do not get wet. You can even ask them to take pictures of your adventure or carry you if you’re tired or don’t know how to swim.
The toughest part is the cliff at the side that you can climb using a rope net, you have to listen to your guide as they give you specific instructions to get past that cliff. Going down puts a lot of thrill to my bones, you can either jump off the cliff or you can glide your way down. The water is deep though but the current is manageable.
